Under Section 28 of the Building Control Act, buildings have to be inspected periodically and to rectify any structural defects by structural engineers to ensure that buildings are structurally safe throughout their life.
The periodic structural inspection is required to be carried out at an interval of 5 years for non-residential buildings (e.g. office, factory, warehouse etc.) and 10 years for residential buildings.
